FAQs

  • All of our lessons are on a one-to-one basis. A standard 60-minute class will usually be broken down into two parts.

    Part 1: 30-minutes

During the first 30 minutes, you will engage in a conversation. You will discuss current events and other relevant topics that are important to you and your English learning journey. This is your chance to put into practice what you've learned in previous lessons and use English in a more natural way. You will be encouraged to participate and be actively involved in the conversation.

    Part 2: 30-minutes

For the next half hour, you will work through some structured lesson content with your tutor. During this section of the lesson, you'll have the opportunity to engage in conversation while exploring important grammar points that will aid in your English development. Every lesson will be personalised to your individual level to maximize your learning experience.

  • Once you schedule a lesson, you'll receive a confirmation email that verifies the time and date of your class. A few minutes prior to the start of your session, your tutor will send you an email with a link to access the virtual classroom.

  • Our classes are conducted entirely online, providing students with the convenience and flexibility to learn from anywhere. Our performed platform to host lessons is on Microsoft Teams. However, if you would prefer to use a different platform, such as Zoom or Google Meet, our tutors would be happy to accommodate your preferences.

  • If for any reason you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson you can either do this by going to the initial email you received, clicking “Change/Cancel Appointment” and selecting the appropriate option.

  • Our lessons at Merlin English are designed for an adult audience and cover topics that may be difficult for younger students to relate to. As a result, we require our students to be at least 16 years of age. Our aim is to provide every student with the maximum value in each lesson, and we want to ensure that our lessons are tailored to meet the specific needs of our adult learners.

  • At Merlin English, we accept payments through Stripe, a trusted and widely-used payment operator that accepts all major debit and credit cards from customers in every country.

  • To participate in our online English classes, you will need a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone with a stable internet connection. We also recommend using headphones with a built-in microphone to ensure the best audio quality during the lessons.

  • Our courses are designed for learners starting from the A1 level. However, we do expect our students to have the ability to form basic sentences in English. Our main focus is to help students improve their conversational skills, and as such, we do not cover fundamental topics such as the alphabet, phonetic sounds, or basic vocabulary. We believe that having a basic understanding of English will be beneficial for our students to maximise their learning experience in our courses.

  • At Merlin English, we believe that setting goals and staying accountable is crucial in your journey to improve your English skills. Your tutor will work with you to discuss your goals and outcomes, and create a personalized study plan that fits your schedule and needs.

While the frequency of study may vary depending on your schedule, we highly recommend that students try to dedicate some time every day to improve their English skills. This can be as simple as reading a short news article, listening to a podcast, or taking a lesson with Merlin English. Consistent practice is key to achieving success in learning a new language.
